One of the Stans doing something Russia doesn't like much. IMO the most "interesting part is at the end of the article.
Obviously a message there, and one that won't be ignored if Ukraine is defeated. Both Gorbachev and Yeltsin believed the Stans were all more trouble than they were worth. Putin may not agree. Even if he doesn't want them as part of the Russian Federation, he most definitely wants to be able to control them. One big reason now is that he needs them to host pipelines to people willing to buy Russian oil and gas. Sea transport isn't guaranteed in these days of sanctions. The Stans know this.
