The Ukrainian state will certainly last longer than Putin, and it's likely that any Putin successor will realize the blood and treasure spent in a war for Ukraine is not worth continuing to try and conquer it.

Hope you are correct on both counts, but hope is not a strategy. Ukraine and the west needs a strategy. Ukraine is stating the objective is to "win". I think that is the only possible objective that will keep Ukraine going. I am unsure of the strategy, if it exists. It is fine that the public doesn't know the strategy, but there needs to be one.

On the second point, since I have no idea who will follow Putin, or when, I can't have a claim to even guess at what that person will think. There are good reasons to believe they might attempt to blame all the problems on their predecessor. OTOH they may be a "continuity" candidate. In any case, IMO it is unwise to rely on that person quitting the war.
