we could have had Fran had she been accepted into the same program she ended up doing at Harvard.
I've seen it reported that Belibi is at Harvard Medical School. If so, doesn't it seem like a self-inflicted wound to not have found a way for her to attend at Stanford? We all acknowledge that it's really hard to get admitted to a Stanford grad program generally (obviously some departments harder than others). But if there's a known quantity student at Stanford who excelled enough to get into Harvard (again presumably for medical school), the fact that the University has no process to look at a few individual cases like this makes me very pessimistic. I mean, Stanford just made a brobdingnagian financial commitment to support the athletics department in shifting to the ACC. What was the point of doing that if the University won't make accommodations to keep someone who got admitted to Harvard on her academic merits? Insert 'this is fine' gif here.
