From a professional worrier, this may be a little excessive. There’s plenty of reason to think that the world is less safe today than it was 25 years ago, but I don’t think it’s good for people outside active military, diplomacy, or government to worry at this level about stuff that might go wrong.

If you define "worry" as losing sleep at night because of anxiety about the "world situation", I agree with you. However, if you mean "worry" in the sense of being as informed as is reasonably possible about the (unfortunately many) areas of conflict in the world, I do indeed think that such "worry" is beneficial for all citizens. The public frequently has to make political judgements (like what candidates and policies to support). Some of these judgements often happen unexpectedly when an unexpected "crisis" pops up and our government is choosing how to respond. If you at least know where on earth the countries involved actually are and what some of the issues and risks are,  you can make better decisions about what "we" decide to do and possibly influence these decisions.

Generally agree.  Problem is we have become so ideologically segregated that except in a few states, results for Pres, Senate, House are preordained. Add to that fact that the internet allows people to immerse themselves in “news” etc that feeds their confirmation bias and  being “informed” has something of a different meaning.
