Agreed.  Thankfully, the Senate managed to come up with a bi-partisan deal in the wee hours of the morning, after an all night session, 70-29.  Whether it can even get a vote in the House is uncertain.  The term "discharge petition" may become a new part of the national lexicon.

Bipartisan support in Senate, uphill battle to pass in the House. Speaker has criticized it for lacking certain provisions, says it's unlikely to get a vote in its current form.
