1) I thought Kiki Rice was more articulate than her coach in that press conference. I'm very impressed with her. I bet she would have thrived at Stanford. [EDIT: FYI, I've read on UCLA chatboards that Betts is fine, it's just an illness, and she could return this week. That would explain why Kiki said she hasn't been with the team off the court either. Hopefully that's true and we'll see her in the matchup this week.]
Yeah, I too, have really enjoyed watching Kiki on and off the court. I remember when she was in high school and committed to UCLA, on one of the remarks she made, she indicated her ability to "play her game" at UCLA and we discussed on this board that someone like her with her explosive offensive game on the permitter may have found Stanford to be too much of a system, whereas she can be the go-to at an up and coming program like UCLA.
However, the irony is, it seems in her two years at UCLA, she really has been more of a steady lead guard, running the show and I have been underwhelmed by her offensive game in most games. She really has struggled to hit her perimeter shot lately and didn't make that freshman to sophomore jump like some top recruits tend to do. She's still very young, but with Betts coming in and Osborne staying a 5th year (and Jones being a shot heavy teammate), there's a lot of other weapons too. Hopefully for Kiki's sake, by her junior and senior years, I'd like to see her be in the 17 ppg range and above 40% on three's.
