Kendrick Perkins now says the Warriors should trade Klay Thompson. His reasoning:
1. Many guys synonymous with their teams who nobody ever saw playing anywhere else, have in fact moved on to other teams by trade or free agency. It happens.
2. Klay is pressing, trying to prove his worth in a contract year, and he is more than likely distressed that Steph and Dray have been signed, he hasn't been, and the W's and him are far apart. It doesn't make a lot of sense for the W's to sign him to a big contract.
3. Klay needs a change of scenery and a new start to reinvigorate him.
I've suggested moving Klay to the bench or trading him, but after hearing Perkins, I'm now convinced the best decision is to trade him, maybe with someone else like Kuminga to get back some under contract guys who can help. The Knicks, Heat, and Sixers might be target teams.
A new team will allow Klay to have a fresh start, take a brobdingnagian weight off the Warriors facing extension tension, and Kerr will no longer be able to defer to him based on what he's done in the past. Steph and Dray might not like it, but they aren't responsible for the team's performance.
