My question is how does Russia making friends with Hamas do anything to help Russia?

Do you not remember a year or two ago about the revelations of Russian campaigns to encourage disparate factions in the  US to fracture our society?  Even if Russia wasn’t in a hot war, they would support actions that inflame groups in the US against others. 

But even more urgently, Russia welcomes a hot war in the Mid East as a diversion for US opinions and politics. Sure enough, the Hamas invasion has driven the Russia invasion to the old news category. As a result, the US is less likely to continue supporting the defense against the Russian invasion. I believe I commented before how Hamas’s actions caused the BBC’s coverage of Ukraine to practically halt.

Russia is using our democracy against us - get the people thinking about something else and they’ll stop supporting what they’re distracted away from. 

Speaking of coverage, how many are aware of the actions of China against the Philipines?
