I read somewhere that LSU was doling out big money to baseball players. Also, maybe Montgomery didn't like DHing for most of the tournament, or maybe he doesn't see Stan bb going very far next year, or...In any event, too bad. An excellent player and good Stan representative. Also, not real surprised.

They won with him in that role because they needed both his arm and his bat. He was back in the field in the CWS, so I am sure it is money. 

While I agree that it would make little logical sense that this transfer was spurred by a few games as DH so that he could pitch if necessary (and not cost Stanford the DH position), I don't think that the conclusion is therefore to be sure it is money. 

It could be any of a thousand things, including many that aren't logical. Of course, money is a strong possibility and Bobbk might actually know something behind his comment above.
