What a disastrous trip to Toronto. Webb gave up as many runs (5) in the first inning of Game 2 as the Giants scored in 27 innings of the whole series. It’s a miracle they weren’t swept.

Just when you thought the starting pitching was the big weakness, the offense completely disappears. That’s concerning. It seems Casey Schmitt is struggling since being hit on arm just like Pete Alonso did and has since returning. It looks like Yaz is being missed in a very big way. He won’t return this weekend at Mets, and Conforto is iffy, though he will want nothing more than to be in lineup against his former team.

In short, the Giants looked nothing like a playoff contender in Toronto. Hopefully they can get back on track against the struggling Metropolitans this weekend in New York.

They won 10 straight on the road.  Losing a series to a good Toronto team is not anything to worry about.  They faced good pitching. 

The injuries are an issue.  But they are for most teams.  And this is an older team.  Agree Yaz was a big loss.  He was playing so well.  

Schmitt is healthy.  He’s also in an 8-59 funk, is playing sporadically and is trying to find the right point between aggressive and chasing.  Not easy to do at MLB level.  Personally, I don’t think it helps him to sit on the bench and spot start. Villar can do that.  Right now, I think Schmitt is thinking too much.  I’d think about sending him down for a short while to work on his approach in a less pressurized environment. He has to be more selectively aggressive.  Give him that charge, send him down and bring him back when he’s worked it out a bit.
