Farhan is looking pretty good at this moment in time.

It looks like passing on Correa will turn out to be the biggest move he made in terms of resources, but, Haniger, Davis, Conforto, and Sabol are looking like the four best signings anyone had this offseason.  You can't win them all, however. Manea and Stripling look very bad. 

Of course, the Giants' record with and performance of Schmitt and Bailey can't be denied.  Even Wade and Estrada are looking really good.  Wade has turned into a great leadoff hitter after a couple years ago being noted for his power.

The Giants are now officially interesting (to me) again. If Harrison was ready to come in and be a top 3 starter - which I believe is what Farhan and co. expected this year - I could see them as a playoff team.  The defense has improved greatly with Schmitt and even Bailey.  And so too has the team speed with Sabol and Schmitt. 

The way these teams are constructed now, it really is necessary for all or most of the envisioned parts to be playing. It really looks like Haniger and Schmitt were important pieces to the envisioned puzzle.

Passing on a $360 million contract to a shortstop with a balky foot/ankle who is batting .215 with a .705 OPS seems like a pretty good decision. Passing on Carlos Rodon, who signed a $162 million contract and has yet to throw a pitch for the Yankees seems like a pretty good decision.

Of the top 45 free agents, Rodon and Correa were ranked #4 and #6, respectively. One isn't playing, one is mediocre at best. The free agents that the Giants signed and their ranking:

#22 Mitch Haniger, hitting .239 with three hits and a home run today and yesterday. He's starting to come around after a horrendous start. Hit 39 HRs two years ago.
#26 Michael Conforto, hitting .241 with .811 OPS, T2 on the team, leading team with 11 HRs.
#36 Sean Manaea, 2-2, 6.61 ERA, leads team in Ks/9 innings and has given up 8HRs in 32 2/3 innings. He pitched two scoreless innings in relief the other day, and he may be moved there.
#40 Ross Stripling, 0-2, 7.24 ERA, has given up 10 HRs in 32 innings. On injured list. Double ugh. 

Giants are 27-25, finally over .500, and are in the last wild card spot. They beat the Brewers 3-1, which means they have scored 233 runs and given up 231 runs this season.

The rookies are playing great. Schmitt and Bailey had consecutive, two-out doubles the other day. Sabol doing well. JD Davis playing exceedingly well. Giants are 16-9 in May, so far. Last year they didn't win 15 in a month until September (18-10).

I agree that once the Giants learned of the ankle, it was the right move to back off Correa.  But it’s a little early to put Correa in the tank.  

As for Rodon, I don’t think the Giants ever seriously pursued him. 

Nice run right now. See if they can keep it rolling.

A’s are 10-44.  That’s on pace for 30-132.  Which would be the worst record in modern history by a fairly wide margin. I truly feel for their fans. What they’ve done is terrible. Essentially they are fielding  a AAA team.
