Farhan is looking pretty good at this moment in time.

It looks like passing on Correa will turn out to be the biggest move he made in terms of resources, but, Haniger, Davis, Conforto, and Sabol are looking like the four best signings anyone had this offseason.  You can't win them all, however. Manea and Stripling look very bad. 

Of course, the Giants' record with and performance of Schmitt and Bailey can't be denied.  Even Wade and Estrada are looking really good.  Wade has turned into a great leadoff hitter after a couple years ago being noted for his power.

The Giants are now officially interesting (to me) again. If Harrison was ready to come in and be a top 3 starter - which I believe is what Farhan and co. expected this year - I could see them as a playoff team.  The defense has improved greatly with Schmitt and even Bailey.  And so too has the team speed with Sabol and Schmitt. 

The way these teams are constructed now, it really is necessary for all or most of the envisioned parts to be playing. It really looks like Haniger and Schmitt were important pieces to the envisioned puzzle.

Almost a quarter of the current roster are rookies.  Can’t remember when that was the case in May.

Harrison may be a top 3 starter someday. That certainly is what is envisioned. But I doubt the Giants expect that this year.  He’s 21.  His pitch count is currently around 70. Giants will extend that.  But slowly.  Were they to call him up now, he could go maybe 3 innings.  4 or a good day.

Giants are understandably cautious with their young arms.  More so, perhaps, than any other organization.  We are in late May and they still are not extending pitchers.

I believe Harrison when gets to 90-100 pitches and is showing more command he will get called up.  Think around July.

Giants are going to have a major roster decision quite soon.  Pederson, Slater and Bart will all be back soon.  Wisely and Johnson get sent down for the first two.  Then what?  Bailey is not going anywhere.  He is the No 1 catcher at this point and will remain unless he is overmatched at the plate.  That seems unlikely.  Sabol is an awful catcher.  But he’s fine in LF , he can hit and he can run.  He has a good chance to be the LF in ‘24 after Conforto opts out.  He’s not going anywhere.

That leaves two legitimate options:  Bart to Sac (he has an option left). Or a trade.  Flores would be a logical choice IF the Giants think Davis can play 1B vs lefthanders. That’s a big if.  Of course, they could try to move Bart.  But even after signing Nottingham their catching depth is thin. As I suspect is true throughout baseball. It’s a tough position.

The other not so legitimate option is someone goes on IL with a hangnail.  But that’s a temporary fix.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
