Note to anyone who thinks you can buy championships….

San Diego with the third highest payroll in the game ($246 million) is currently 20-25 with a .194 team BA with runners in scoring position (no team in the history of the game has ever finished the season below the Mendoza Line). 

Meanwhile, the Giants are finally beginning to reap the rewards of a strong farm system (kinda like LA).

Don’t get me wrong, I believe in strategic additions via free agency but wholesale spending is not the answer.

Dang, if only Judge had said yes……..

No question best way to build is from the farm system then add.  Like the. Giants did in their Championship run.  I don’t think anyone disputes that. But money matters. Except to the Rays.

Most surprising team in baseball?  28-17 Texas Rangers.  Not sure it will hold.

Hmmm…. I wonder what the Rangers and the Giants championship teams have in common?

Same thing as the NL West fifth place finishing teams in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2017 and fifteen teams that finished third or worst in the NL West between 1995 and 2019. A sub-.500 career record manager managed all those teams.

I think the Giants are quietly turning into a very good fielding team:

1) Wade has the highest range factor among MLB first basemen (he does have the second most errors among 1Bs, but at least he's getting to the ball).
2) Estrada has the second highest range factor among MLB second basemen and has the second most assists in MLB.
3) Until his error the other day, JD Davis had the fifth best fielding percentage among MLB third basemen.
4) Casey Schmitt, in 12 games, doesn't have an error yet.
5) Yaz has the 4th most OF assists among MLB centerfielders. Yaz and Slater have both initiated double plays from the outfield.
6) DeSclefani has the most assists among MLB pitchers with 12 and the best range factor among MLB pitchers.
7) Stanford's own Tristan Beck has the most double plays initiated by pitchers in MLB with three.
8) Cobb has the most errors among MLB pitchers with two.
9) Haniger is a superb outfielder with four zone runs saved (Tied for third among left fielders).

And Patrick Bailey hit an HR off of a 98 mph heater today...
