I'm assuming that if those planes were shot down by a patriot system, maybe the 2nd battery, Russia would know by know that was the case, since there'd be debris left behind, but if that wasn't the case, it would really benefit Ukraine if Russia was constantly worried about the Patriot system being along the controlled Ukrainian border at any point, waiting to switch on briefly and take out any Russian aircraft that thinks its safe over Russian soil at high altitude. The system might have more value as a deterrent in that case, but I'm sure I'm off somehwere with my theory.
