An aside… Bobby Bonds was nearly the first 40-40 player. He had 39 HRs and 43 SB’s in 1973. If he had not been robbed of an HR at Candlestick by a Reds OF who made a spectacular catch, he would have been the first, an achievement that was accomplished by Canseco in 1988.
