I don't know if this would be a disincentive for coaches to do everything they can to hold on to all undergraduate student athletes. If it's a disincentive, I'm pretty sure Admissions would be strongly against it. They and the administration want to keep the graduation rate for undergraduates as high as possible. Stanford and Ivy League schools are into things like that.
The current Director of Admissions has no sports-related positions in his work history. I don't know where sports are in his priorities although policy is probably set by the President, the Deans of Stanford schools, and other high ranking officials.
