They still have one road (just barely), but they have plenty of area where they can just walk out. The basically have no vehicles anyway. Russia OTOH doesn't have any artillery in the two "horns" around Bakhmut, and for that matter Russia is using less artillery than ever in the area. I think casualty rates in Bakhmut are indeed very high, so a withdrawal may actually be less deadly than staying. The present situation is probably still "OK", but it could deteriorate real fast. Hopefully Ukraine has a plan and is not letting their hearts overcome their reason. So far, they have been good at that.
