You are probably right; the value is likely more symbolic than strategic, especially for Severodonetsk/Lyshyshank.  But it keeps “momentum”, demonstrates progress, even if slow, and shows the Russians that all the manpower and energy that they spent capturing the city was for naught.  Seems like a metaphor for the war itself.
