My gawd. What a catastrafuck for the Orange & Black. They better not hide behind plausible deniability about whether they had signed Correa or not, and be 100% transparent. If what was posted here is accurate, that the Twins knew of this "medical issue" and offered more AAV than the Giants, and the Mets swooped in with a smaller offer than the Giants gave to get Correa, the Giants have some big time 'splainin' to do.
They can't deny the presser scheduled was to introduce Correa and hide behind the fact they never really signed him, so they can't talk about him. The Giants have an unprecedented situation on their hands that no team in any sport has ever faced to my knowledge. Some will claim the Giants found a new way to fool the fans into thinking they are committed to winning and competing in modern MLB, with the way this played out, and a lot of people - including fans of the team - will buy into it.
First, it appears they have someone leak to the press (including Susan Slusser) that they are signing Judge and don't put out their own story denying they were gonna sign Judge if that came from his agent and they didn't believe it, and look foolish as he re-signs with Yankees either way. Then this Correa disaster. It's not gonna inspire a whole lot of confidence in the Giants' front office operations, and probably will also hurt their ticket sales and ratings, as their bumbling ways turn off a whole heckuva a lot of fans.
This takes ham-fisted to another level. It screams "we are who you thought we were" (not willing to do what it takes to win) even though it might end up turning out that Correa spends the majority of his new contract on the IL, and make the Giants look smart in retrospect for pulling his deal after a concerning physical. However, in the here and now of this off season they needed o get very right, the Giants look like clueless pretenders, while the Mets, Dodgers, Padres, Phillies, all are the genuine article.
All we be forgiven if they sign Rafael Devers and Shohei Ohtani next year, right?
