A few items of note…

Pederson accepts QO.  Tyler Anderson leaves the Dodgers and signs with the Angels.  The 40 man roster deadline is at 3pm PST today.

Joc is no fool. He doesn’t come close to that on open market. Still surprised they gave him the QO. Very interested to see if Giants protect Matos.  I would.

I think the perspective on Joc is he really cost 6+million after Farhan subtracts the 13 million for Longo.

I think Farhan might be managing a pool of money rather than individual offers this winter.

Actually, it was an $8 million savings for Longo if you factor in his buy-out.

Based on my understanding, Zaidi has a flexible budget with which to work (a target figure with the ability to go higher if Johnson agrees).  Obviously, I don’t know the number but I suspect it is enough to sign a couple big dollar guys.  As I noted here before, 185-200 would be my guess.

Grant Brisbee nailed it in The Athletic this morning (paraphrasing) - Pederson is fine as long as he is a toss on top of the pile signing as opposed to a key piece of the equation signing.

Yep.  My thought precisely.

Pederson's interesting. He has his second All-Star year last year, and a number of his metrics were at or near career highs, including batting average (considerably higher than his best year), triples, OBP, OPS and RBI. His WAR+ was easily the best of his career. He's 30 years old, and had by far the most HRs on the team. I suspect Zaidi thinks he might achieve another gear, some guys bloom late. He wasn't in great shape, if he gets in better shape -- which he might do, inspired by the addition of 2-4 studs around him -- he could really be something.
