My comment was in response to this:

Great quarterbacks on otherwise okay teams (Elway, Jim Kelly, Tarkenton), I get that too.

Elway did suffer from some not so great teams, but he was also on a couple super bowl champions.  I’d say Dan Marino was the poster child for a great QB who never had the supporting cast to win it all.  Even Kelly, despite never winning a Super Bowl, did make to the game four straight years. It’s not like he didn’t have Bruce Smith, Andre Reed, our very own James Lofton, and Thurmon Thomas playing with him.  If only the field goal kicker had been a bit better…

True, re: Elway.  He was on winning teams 12 of 16 years in his career, two .500 teams, and only two losing teams, including his first one.  All Pro or Pro Bowl 9 of those 16 seasons.
