Interesting to know the reasons why.

SF State: Ostensibly because of Title Nine, 90's.
USF: first time, expense of the program, 1951.
Santa Clara, St. Mary's: 49ers use of Kezar, probably expense of big time program.
USF second time: No interest even with Vince Tringali at helm.

St. Mary's and SCU used Kezar Stadium on Sundays before the Niners arrived. When the Niners became the primary tenant at Kezar (going to court to force the college teams to play on Saturdays), that forced the college teams to find other arrangements.  Then in 1952, SCU had two poor seasons in a row, with dwindling crowds, and that was that.  USF had gone 9-0, undefeated, untied and uninvited, having refused to play in the Orange Bowl when officials of that bowl demanded that African American players Toler and Matson not play in the Bowl Game.  Two days after the close of the season, USF ceased football.

In 1960, the Philadelphia Eagles went to their only postseason in 28 seasons, from 1950 to 1977. They won the NFL championship that year.

Who were the opposing coaches and what was unique about them?

How many Pacific Coast Conference/AAUW (forerunners of the Pac-8) players were on the two rosters?

The rule books are filled with famous "firsts." In this game, there was a famous "last."  What was it?

Buck Shaw and Vince Lombardi were the coaches. 

“Last” - Last Play?  Bednarik running out the clock by not allowing the ball carrier up.

Nicely done.  What was unique:

1) Buck Shaw was, at the time, the oldest coach to win an NFL championship until George Halas won it three years later.  Shaw coached Santa Clara, Cal and the 49ers.
2) It was the only playoff game that Vince Lombardi ever lost.  Lombardi would go on to win three NFL championships and two Super Bowls.
3) Bednarik was the last player to play both ways.  He played 58 minutes in this game.
4) Each team had two players from the old PCC/AAU (pre-Pac-8) conference, most of whom were key players.  The Eagles had their QB, Norm Van Brocklin and DL John Wilcox (brother of NFL All Pro Dave) both from Oregon.  The Packers had Jerry Kramer from Idaho (which was in the PCC at the time) and Willie Wood from USC.
