What would happen in Russia if Putin were to die in the middle of this war?   What would happen to the war?  Would there be pressure for a hawk to take over and press the war, perhaps in Putin's name, or would there be pressure to bring the soldiers home?   I have no idea.

Everyone in Russia except one scared, old, powerful, sick man knows what a catastrophic mistake it was to attack Ukraine. If Putin dies, I hope sane adults take over and drag Russia kicking and screaming back into the world community, to wit:

1. Immediate armistice.
2. Negotiations for pre-war borders.
3. Punishment for Russian officers too close to Putin and their failures.
4. Rapprochement with the West.
5. Pro-Western government installed.
6. Investment encouraged and accelerated in both Ukraine and USSR. McDonald's returns.
7. Russia joins NATO to help counter China.
