As much as I would like that to be the case, the reality is that this is not where we are as a country. We are just not in a position to rely on others to protect us, sadly. The best we can hope for is that others show some grace and understand that not everyone is in the same place health-wise or risk-tolerance-wise, and that we at least are not jerks about it if someone politely asks us to wear a mask. But I think most individuals who are not ready or able to let down their guard will have to take steps to protect themselves rather than relying on mutual protection.
