I believe there have been cases similar to this in the past, however it's typically not a NATO country aircraft being shot down over NATO territory. I do think this would lead to the backchannel lines being called, and if Russia does not admit it was an accident or something of that sort, then we'd have a good chance of article 5. Now one thing about article 5, is that I believe it would require an unanimous vote from all members, in which case I think Hungary would be an issue. Even still, at that point I think we'd see action from NATO, and because of that I don't think it would happen.
