Wouldn't shooting down a plane -- US or not -- inside Poland or bombing a target in Poland constitute an act of war against Poland, triggering NATO's "an attack on one is an attack on all" clause requiring all NATO countries to come to Poland's defense? So either action would amount to an "all in" bet by Putin daring NATO to respond as its treaty obligations say it will or be shown to be a paper tiger.
