People are right to criticize Europes reliance on Russian energy.

But we are reliant on China for other important products (as we recently saw with something as simple as face masks, although thankfully we werent in a conflict and they amped up production). 

We need to make sure our own house is in order…I am far from an expert on rare earths, electronics and pharmaceutical manufacturing capability and of course semiconductor fabs (with Taiwan clearly in China’s sites), but we need to learn from Europe’s predicament.

This will be expensive and uneconomic, and is probably best analyzed together with our allies, but it seems like an insurance policy we need to buy. That said, I think there is an advantage to having good trade relations with China, just not being dependent.
