In Cornelius Ryan’s last book he describes Soviet soldiers not knowing what toilets were as they marched on Berlin so they used them to wash potatoes.

I doubt that many Russian soldiers on the ground in the Ukraine have any geopolitical thoughts.

Yes, Russia has a long history of treating its soldiers as cannon fodder.  I doubt that the Russian leaders value soldier lives as highly as we do.  Hopefully, the Russian people hold a much higher value.
