Just looked at this thread for the first time. A few random thoughts come to mind.
I'm skeptical of any report about progress in peace talks. Whenever Putin needs some time to resupply his troops he starts talking about compromises and then a day later continues bombing.
Putin claims Ukraine joining NATO is a threat. Poland and the Baltic states have a small border contiguous to Russia and are members of the EU. There have been EU troops in the Baltic states for years.
