OK, simply because predicting the unpredictable is fun:Â
When we are on defense: Our secondary won't be able to improve that much in one week, so pass-happy Duke will still be able to exploit our secondary and rack up some passing yards. On the other hand, with the return of Skov and the absorption of the lesson of last week, our defensive front seven will play better and apply more pressure. This will make the Duke attack a little more erratic and lower their third down conversion rate. So Duke will connect on a couple of big bombs, but will also suffer a oouple of bad sacks. Duke should be able to exceed SJSU's score of 17: I'd say they score 24.
When we are on offense: Our blocking will somewhat improve and Duke has shown itself to be vulnerable to the run. Our backs should have a better day than last week and this improved ground game will help our third down conversion rate. However, sooner or later one of our inexperienced players is going to commit a turnover or two--we were lucky not to lose the Nunes fumble nor suffer an interception last week. While the turnovers and slow groundgame may hold the score down some, the Duke defense is weak and we should still do better than against SJSU. I'd say we wind up with 31 points with at least one or two touchdowns coming off of long runs.Â
Stanford +7.
