I think Shanahan agrees with you.  Hence, the trade to get Lance.  The big question is why not play Lance now to get him some experience before next season kicks off.

You are right, he’s not ready.  But why not?  This in not Jacksonville, Chicago or the Jets.  Niners have a lot of talent. So it’s more like NE.  They turned it over to a rookie and are doing fine. If the Niners turned it over to Lance day one, do you think they’d be worse than 6-6?  I don’t.

We'll have to disagree on this one. Mac Jones has a lower ceiling but he came in extremely well prepared to play in an NFL system and to run through the reads that New England requires; Lance was and is much more raw as a quarterback. I don't think the 49ers would be 6-6 with him.

Agree DC. We know he's very raw having played two (?)seasons of non power league fb. He hasn't seen varied defenses manned by terrific players, usually threw to wide open receivers, etc. I think his limited SF appearances demonstrate that fact. Niners are still trying for the playoffs and I think JG has a better chance of leading them there. Besides, the women in my family actually watch fb when Jimmy is playing.

Yes, JG does bring to mind Bill Walsh’s comment about SD. 
Things worked out OK after Bill replaced SD with Joe Montana. Can we hope for the same result with Trey Lance?

I'm being a little unfair.  DeBerg was 53-86-1 as a starting quarterback.  Garoppolo is 30-12.  Slight difference.

Alex Wood signing with SF for 2 years x $10 mm according to Jeff Passan, who is almost always correct on these things.

Saw that a while back. Suspect it will happen.  Also supposedly close on Cobb.  Be very curious to know how hard they pursued Metz.

Cobb and Wood supposedly on team-friendly deals.

Farhan is really good on the team friendly K's. I hope he spends some of the savings on a big time right handed hitter. They are minus both Posey and Chris, leaving Longoria, Casali, Bart(?), Ruf, Solano, Flores, Slater, and the second half call up whom I like who can play many positions. Longoria will probably be injured 1/3 of the season, so that's not a very formidable group. Did I miss anybody?

No.  But I think Slater, Ruf, Solano and Flores are poised for big years.  But I wouldn't be broken-hearted if they added Castellanos.

Big years based on what, a wish and a prayer? Castellanos isn't worth what he seems to be seeking but if that's all there is...go for it.
