Yeah, good find.

Makes Shaw look cheap in comparison. Also, I didn’t realize Penn State finished 7-5. That’s gotta be disappointing for a team expected to challenge Ohio State and Michigan for the BigTen title.

Even mid-tier teams in Power 5 conferences are paying $5 million per year before bonuses, so that's why I always found it curious that many were upset about the idea that 2 time Rose Bowl winner Coach Shaw getting $9 million, especially when one remembers the $9 million included deferred salary from earlier years and possibly included bonuses for multiple Rose Bowl wins and even a top 5 finish.
Doesn't really matter how much Shaw is getting I guess. For a school to get a CFP/NY6 level coach and keep that coach for more than one season probably will cost $8+ million per year in a 5 year contract with a lot of that guaranteed. And if your school lacks the opportunity to land easy promotion money (see. Saban and AFLAC) then it likely will be $10 million or more per year soon.
LSU was set to pay big money for a coach, reportedly in the $12-$13 million range. I can only guess USC is going to pay something in that same range. It is really hard to believe Oklahoma will thrive in the first few years in the SEC, so I think the coach made a great move. He should be able to convince a wave of LA based recruits that HE knows what it takes to get to the CFP even if the Pac-12 is clueless.
