In evaluating the quiality of the '22 recruiting class, I find myself putting outsized weight on the outcome of David Bailey's recruitment. If he were to come to Stanford, he would likely be the school's top recruit since 2017, and he'd be only the third top 100 recruit in the 5 classes since 2017. If we're looking at whether Stanford can remain competitive for truly elite recruits anymore, David Bailey's recruitment is the best barometer we have right now. But I do need to remember that one recruitment is an impossibly small sample size, and the answer to the bigger question does not depend entirely on the outcome of this one event.
