 Plus IMO Tara is at the stage of her career where she would not be interested in a player who isn't full-time focused on basketball.

Unless it's Kristin Folkl . . . who you'd take at any stage of a coaching career.  

Folkl still might be the best Stanford athlete ever . . . she has to be in the conversation, anyway - uber elite VB and hoopster.  Elway, Toi, Dotterer, Paye . . . Veris (how good was he in field events in track at Stanford?).  

Am sure there are others I'm missing.  But in my lifetime, the most elite 2-sport Stanford athletes that I can think of are Elway, Folkl, and Cook.

I had to laugh at the comment about Tara being “at the stage of her career” to not be interested in a two-sport athlete. I’m pretty sure she was at that stage decades ago, given the way she handled Folkl, who, IMHO, would have led us to a Title if she’d only been allowed to play more…

And wasn't it Folkl AND The Big Lefty (name escapes me, but she is a HS coach now - just looked it up Vanessa Nygaard) who both were injured in Feaster Harvard game?  I would have liked that team's chances to cut down the nets, too, had the Cardinal been healthy.

Not injured in the Harvard game, just not there for it. Nygaard tore her ACL in the late minutes of the last regular season game, didn't need to be in there and in retrospect, one has to wonder why Tara hadn't taken her out. Despite the loss of Nygaard, the NCAA still made Stanford a #1 seed for the tournament. Then Folkl tore her ACL during practice in the weeks before the 1st round of the tournament, and that fateful game. A nightmare, to put it mildly. The 2nd round was played in Berkeley that year, and I couldn't bring myself to attend after the debacle at Maples. But my husband did go to Berkeley, just as a matter of support for WBB, and to see how well Harvard did. They lost, of course.

I agree, with those two in the game, I think we really had a good shot at the title. But after that, it would be a long drought. . . , not until 2008 that Stanford got back to the final 4.
