I think on pass blocking he had a bit more time than he feared. However, over time it was depressingly clear that the OL run blocking was a disaster. I thought Fresno State represented a bit of a trap game for UCLA.(09-26-2021, 03:52 AM)JohnR34231 Wrote: Yep, I had hoped our OL weakness was just a function of us needing a couple of games to get it together, especially since the OL was supposed to be a strength of the team going into the season. Now it is beginning to look like something that will plague us all year. If McKee isn't sharp, and he won't be all the time, we have no offense.Totally agree. Nobody plays their "best" all the time. Way too much to expect, and it can get worse if you have a QB that gets "happy feet" from being hit too much. Our OL should be better than this. We probably don't have lots of quickness, but we should be able to push some piles forward. Seems we can't do that either.
The DL play was not unexpected but so disheartening. It seemed like the yards gained after first contact was 4 or 5 yards for UCLA RBs, while Stanford RBs were immediately overwhelmed by three or more defenders at the line of scrimmage if not in the backfield.
UCLA and Oregon are near CFP level teams. And if either one can get through the season with 1 loss they should be in the CFP.
Those of us that predicted 5, 6 or 7 wins for Stanford probably suspected the team would be 2-3, at best, after 5 games. So the team is pretty much on course for the 6 or 7 win season IMHO.
