Worst unexpected loss. 111 win ‘54 Indians and get swept by Dusty Rhodes.

What's worse is that it wasn't close.  The Indians didn't come within a run in any of the four games.  The scores were 5-2, 3-1, 6-2 and 7-4.  Rhodes was the hammer (4 for 6, 2 HRs), but Hank Thompson, Al Dark, Don Mueller, Wes Westrum and Willie Mays all had a good series and of course, Mays made the amazing catch.  Aside from Vic Wertz (who hit the 460 foot fly ball out that Mays caught), no one else on the Indians played well.  The Giants pitching staff only gave up 9 runs, only six of them earned.

The Giants were 97-57, the Dodgers won 92 games and the Braves won 89 that season.  The other five NL clubs were under .500.
