What a game what a weekend.    First place humm baby

The best, most-enjoyable sporting event of the long weekend.  Unexpected to knock Buehler around, and it should give the team a big lift.

Only downside is (and remains, I would say), McGasCan as closer.  He just doesn't have "it" - at least from here.

You are  only looking at the negative outings.  Which almost all relievers. Including closers, have. 

McGee went over two months without giving up a run.  His ERA is 2.9 ish. Whip under 1. 58 Ks and 10 walks.  Is he Josh Hader?  No. But he’s been darn good.  Yesterday was his third game in 4 days. I do think he struggles a bit when he has that kind of workload. But Kapler has no choice.

We will see what he has left down the stretch.

No, I don't only highlight negative outings.  And btw, do you guys actually watch the games?  McGee gets hit.  Hard.  I'd say much harder than most good (not even great) closers.  His fastball is too flat.  He does well when he locates exceptionally well; but otherwise, he gets knocked around.  Sometimes those shots off the hitters find a glove, and I suggest THAT is what is keeping his numbers respectable (and if you look at last month, I'd bet those numbers are on the rise.  Big time).  Also, he gave up a 2-run oppo bomb to a righty that the 1B ump initially called a homer. Replay showed it went right of the foul pole . . . by about two inches.

As for whether Kapler has a choice, sure he does.  You could let Rogers go 2 innings, or at least start the ninth inning (it wasn't even a save opportunity when McGee entered the game).  

Look, overall the Giants have been fabulous.  And Kapler has made WAY more great decisions than poor ones (only a couple of the latter, imo).  My big point of emphasis is to have the Giants play a real playoff series by either winning the NL West or the WC game.  Given how great they've played this season, only getting a one and done post-game would really be unjust.

I still don't think they have a dominant ACE starter, though Webb has been terrific lately.  And I really don't trust McGee as the closer, especially in WC game.  (In your heart of hearts, do you trust McGee in a 3-2 game in the ninth to lock it down)?  Those are two vital ingredients for any playoff success, but particularly the one-game WC scenario.

P.S.  Doval has closer stuff . . . but I'm not sure about between the ears.
