Niners crunched the Raiders today, 34-10.  A few observations.

1) Niner defense is incredible, both last game and this game.  And they're not even playing Bosa, Ford and Warner.  The rookies look really good. Yikes...

2) I've been thinking the same thing about Trey Lance that I thought about John Elway, which is...if his college receivers could catch him, why are NFL receivers dropping his passes?  It's worse for Lance, he only had BCS subdivision receivers to work with.  Why won't they catch his passes?

3) Similar to two years ago, the Niners have a great defense and running game.  Special teams, I think will be really good once the rust has been knocked off.  Elijah Mitchell might be a find -- had a 45 yard kickoff return.  Niners averaged 9.5 yards per punt return.  Wishnowsky had a 75 yard punt.  But the passing game is still...disappointingly average.  Even though Trey Lance is #5 in passer rating>  CJ Beathard is #1 after two games.  Seriously.

4) My general sense is that the NFL game has passed Jon Gruden by and left him in the dust.

I take nothing from pre-season.

The only thing I learned from today’s game is that Gruden doesn’t bother making any kind of an effort to field a competitive team for the exhibition games.

Brutal 7 game home stand coming. Giants get 4 with Milwaukee.  Face Burnes  and Woodruff (not to mention the back end of the Brewers bullpen, which is probably the best in baseball.) Then 3 with Dodgers - Buehler, Urias and Scherzer. 

Giants are going to have to get good pitching. Cause those are 5 of the leagues best starters. Including probably the two best - Burnes  and Buehler.

SF will miss Scherzer.  He is scheduled to pitch Wednesday v. Atlanta.
