And another "ace" start from Gausman . . . or maybe not.

I hope your playoff confidence in McGee proves justified.  He was very tidy last night.

P.S.  Agree with Phogge that Crawford isn't getting nearly enough run as potential MVP winner.  Incredible season to date.

BTW, after Craw's 4-4 night, he has been 0-fer in a couple games, iirc.
Posey and Belt also have gone cold lately.

It's baseball, I know, but if the old guys revert to form, then the Dodgers will have the Giants in rear view mirror sooner rather than later.

On the bright side:  excellent job by the bully overall.  Just the 1 run in regular nine innings.

P.S.  I didn't even know the Giants had a Chatwood on the roster . . .

Jeez.  You are Mr Doom and Gloom.  Hitters have little dips.  No reason to think Crawford, Posey and Belt “return to form”. Whatever that means…..

Giants issue moving forward is not going to be their bats.  Pitching will be the question.  Bullpen has been terrific.  But it’s getting way over used.  Starters have to get deeper.  And now they may have two on IL.

If Crawford hits .270 for the season - that would be a good batting average for him.  If he hits zero more HRs, his current total of 19 (?) would be a good season for him.  But if he does have that good average and good power season, it means he will have gone on a power outage and dropped thirty percentage points in the last 41 games.  That would not bode well.  You can do same exercise for Belt and Posey.  You get the idea.

As for the Giants, I have believed, for 2H anyway, that their problems are (a) no ace starter (for must-win game, including WC playoff), and (b) no closer.  I agree that overall the pitching has been good.  But when playoffs come around, "good" likely won't cut it.

Finally, I do want to acknowledge that this year has been one of the most enjoyable Giants seasons in memory.  The team has played so well and has had so many incredible Ws (and a couple painful Ls) that as fans we're playing a bit with House Money.  Still, given how well they've played to date, it would absolutely SUCK for this team to NOT play a full playoff series.  That's sort of my main concern now . . . trying to fend off the Dodgers.  (I wish there were 14 games remaining, instead of 41).

There are others to pick up slack offensively. Yaz, for example. Not saying he will get hot, but he’s certainly capable of doing so. Same thing with Dickerson who is very streaky. He’s shown some signs lately. So I just don’t think offense is going to be the issue.

Giants 9-2 over last 11. During which they dropped a game to the Dodgers. Next 19:  9 on road (A’s, Mets, Braves). Home for seven (4 Brewers, 3 Dodgers). Then to Colorado for three.  All at a time when their starting staff is iffy at best.  If they can get through this at or very near the lead, they can win the division.  But it’s not beyond the realm of reason that they are 5 back after these 19.  They have yet to have a truly bad stretch. And these 19 coming up are brutal.  

I don’t see the Dodgers having any kind of bad run from here to the end of the season. Giants could play 600 ball from here on out and finish second. Not a whole lot they can do about that.
