How big a transition is it for an OT to move to OG? Including commitments from the class of 2022, Stanford has 7 scholarship OTs in the 3 most recent classes. In that same period, there is 1 scholarship OG.

The rule of thumb in general is only recruit Offensive Tackles, and move some of them to Guard or even Center. If you find a truly elite pure Guard - is good inside, can pull if you like that, and has short arms - recruit as a Guard, but all things being equal only recruit OTs if possible. They are moved inside all the time.

That said, you can generally tell by heights most of the time. 6'7" or taller = tackle. 6'4" or shorter = interior. 6'5"/6'6" is usually the sweet spot of players that could play either way. (6'6" Barrett Miller was recruited as a tackle and will likely end his career as a 4-year starting guard. 6'6" David Bright played everywhere but center.)

Also note that on a typical high school team, the biggest/best lineman - aka the guy everyone is recruiting - is basically always playing blindside tackle for pretty self-explanatory reasons.

6'5" Lucas Heyer can convert to guard. We have a very good chance to get Jake Maikkula, who is actually being recruited by everyone as a guard. According to coach Heff, all interior linemen - regardless of whether they are actually centers - are learning how to snap the ball as well.
