I'm not talking about "average sports fan."  I'm talking about average Stanford sports fan.  And even more importantly, Stanford University administrators who will need to examine the role of paid athletes on campus vis a vis the mission of the university.


Maybe they determine paid athletes is consistent with the mission of Stanford University.  I just don't see it . . .

My "average sports fan" comments were more in response to Goose's comments about "even SEC fans".

The Stanford administrators thing is interesting. Most university administrators with that kind of influence don't have long-time connections to the university they serve and are a long ways removed from any direct involvement in academic pursuits - if they ever had any. There's much less of that at Stanford (and other top private schools). Maybe that will lead to the stated mission actually meaning something.
