I know lots of people on this board have complained about "the shift". The way I see it, if the batter is totally incapable of hitting the ball to the opposite field, he deserves what he gets. Belt could hit 0.350 if he just learned to place the ball in play toward the vacant side of the field. I know that isn't totally trivial to do, but if you are a professional player, you should be able to do that. You won't hit home runs that way, but you will get a lot of hits. Do that until they have to play you straight up.
