ESPN touting SD- LA as baseballs biggest rivalry.  Give me a break.

Some Gen-Z producer probably thought that one up.  It isn't much of a rivalry, no matter what the definition.  Since 2013, the Dodgers are 97-49 against the Padres (including playoffs), which is the most lopsided record of any intra-division matchup in MLB.  Some rivalry.

And the Padres have been in existence since 1989.  The Giants and Dodgers have played each other 2,504 times since they were both founded in 1883 as the Brooklyn Atlantics and the New York Gothams (the Giants were always in the NL, Brooklyn joined the NL in 1890).  The Giants hold a slight lead over the Dodgers, 1,262 to 1,242. Now that's a rivalry.

Incidentally, the Gothams became the Giants in 1885.  The Atlantics were also known as the Grays, the Bridegrooms, the Superbas, the Robins and the Trolley Car Dodgers before they settled on the Dodgers.

Final fun facts: everyone knows that the Dodgers and Giants migrated west in 1958.  I always understood that it was because of poor attendance.  But the Dodgers were first or second in the NL in attendance in seven of the nine seasons between 1949 and 1957, but the Giants started hitting the skids in 1953 w/respect to attendance, dropping to 811k in 1953, then 629k and 653k in their last two seasons in NYC.
