Some of the clubs have been purchased by hedge funds looking to maximize profits.  For example, AC Milan is owned by Elliott Management. Manchester United is owned by the Glazer family, who acquired it in a leveraged buyout.  A number of other clubs are owned by foreigners (Chelsea by Russian Oligarch Roman Abramovich, Inter Milan by Chinese mogul Zhang Jindong, Manchester City by Emirati royal Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, etc.)
