Heard on the radio today: 30,000 new cases in California (15% of the total in the country), about half of them in LA county. ICU capacity in southern California is down to 8%, limited by staffing. They are trying to get traveling nurses in, which works when you have a local surge, but right now the whole country is trying to increase their staffing so there isn't a pool of travelers available. It's worse in the central valley; ICU capacity is <5%.
As the subject heading notes, it's bad out there.
