Not optimal. Pfizer is supposed to deliver 20m by end of December and then ramp up. If we are only getting 100 million from them, and 100 million from Moderna, that's 100m total Americans that can be vaccinated because both vaccines require two doses. Prior reporting indicated the US had bought 100million from Pfizer and had an option for an additional 500m. Seems now from this report that option will only be available in perhaps June.
Don't think the mRNA vaccines will even cover all the HCPs and elderly with comorbidities, and we could well run out of vaccines to give in the Spring unless more is sourced, or other vaccines are approved.
We better hope that the other vaccines are safe and efficacious and also can be produced very quickly.
