My perspective is perhaps a bit different because the folks I see with this have been through a war with it. New development, starting to see some of the folks who got off vents months ago but now have very difficult to surgically correct vocal cord problems from having a tube in their throats for a long time. Reducing the number of people who get this disease should be our guiding principle, even if most people who get it will probably be fine long term. This is a new disease we don't fully understand. Humility is smart when dealing with it IMHO.
