Stanford is rocking it with women's swimming.
I have a question for anyone with inside admissions knowledge here. Why do we have such great luck with top ranked recruits in swimming versus some other sports? Are women swimmers at the high school level just more likely to be committed to their schoolwork? We simply cannot offer many highly rated football players or basketball players or baseball players because of academic concerns.
Also, I am guessing that the paring down of sports at Stanford will allow each remaining sport to potentially lower their academic standards marginally as a smaller percentage of the student body will be recruited athletes. Any thoughts on how that is going to impact the big money sports that are not perennial national championship caliber teams (e.g., football, basketball, baseball)?
