Yes, because NASCAR is racing right now. If an outbreak stopped NASCAR that would directly impact those red hay types immediately.
Clemson, Alabama and LSU players getting sick isn't a big deal as long as the teams can play and win from September - November. If the region has an outbreak that causes the SEC to cancel games than that would be a much bigger deal. Definitely agree that college football cancellations would be a bigger game changer if/when it happens.
I tend to doubt it would change the rate of spread or cause people to rush to get masks at this point. Rather some in The South would understand that even if the deaths largely were in big blue northern urban centers, COVID can still have an impact their lives and livelihood.

P.S. Per article, Johnson never experienced any symptoms . . . hard to see that profile as a game changer.
