Cuomo knows without a doubt that the schools aren't re-opening this school year, but he has to waste time saying that HE gets to make the decision NOT DeBlasio. Who the F* cares?
Their foolishness makes me appreciate Governor Newsom and the mayors of California's large cities. They have worked together very well even though they don't all agree on some of the details. I know from working with some of those mayors that Governor Newsom thinks President Trump has done a terrible job providing federal leadership and assistance. However, Governor Newsom has been smart enough to not pick needless fights with the president or shout his feelings from the rooftops. Instead, he has mostly stayed focused on responding to the epidemic. That doesn't mean that the media shouldn't cover any politician's failings, but I appreciate it when my representatives stay focused on the task at hand.

There is a long history of conflict between Albany and NYC. The state has a bunch of laws that give Albany veto power or the final say in things that are local decisions in most other places.
Ultimately, what we're seeing isn't a sign of bad management of the virus per se but rather a power sharing issue between the city and state. If Newsom and London Breed had joint authority of sorts over San Francisco (or whatever other city), we might have seen the same thing here.

Speaking as someone who's lived in NYC myself, I feel comfortable saying that the egos that New York produces are bigger than just about anywhere. Just look at the leadership it has produced at the federal (Trump), state (Cuomo), and local (DeBlasio) level...
Good article here on how both Diblasio (mostly) and Cuomo (to a lesser extent) screwed up in delaying the lockdown of New York city/state. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/08/nyreg...elays.html
I agree that praise for Cuomo is probably overblown. Though he seems to have done a good job if you ignore the fact that part of the reason for the size of the problem is his earlier missteps.
